    Pulled the trigger with HL

I was able to research Hecla Mining Company.  I brought 100 shares.  Tomorrow I am going to sell a call at the $5 strike for December.  I should pickup a good return on this investment.  If my option expires, I will sell another call in December.  I am just debating my strike.  I may sell a call in the money (most likely the $4 strike).

    PVX: Follow up

    Here are my results:

    Date/TimeDescriptionAmount
    09/11/09Bought 100 PVX @ 5.3599 -545.98
    09/24/09Sold 1 PVXJA @ 0.8 69.25
    10/15/09QUALIFIED DIVIDEND (PVX) 5.81
    10/15/09FOREIGN TAX WITHHELD (PVX) -0.87
    10/19/09OPTION ASSIGNED (PVXJA) 0
    10/19/09Sold 100 PVX @ 5 479.99
    Profit$8.20
    ROI1.50%
    Duration in days38
    APY14.43%

This was a modest return on my investment. I wanted to pickup the dividend and that is where most of my profit came from. I don’t remember the exact conditions, but I am pretty sure the stock ran up a bit on my purchase date. However, the option I focused on was still in the money.

HL and AAI are on my radar

I am in the process of doing more research. I like the November calls at the $5 strike for both stocks. I am trying keep my options orders diverse and not pick one and buy two contracts.

PVX: Why energy is so sexy

All jokes aside, investing in energy is very attractive.  Yes, I did say attractive.  I like to invest to make money.  Providing energy to consumers is a money maker.

While looking for opportunities in September, I came across Provident Energy Trust.  Before the debacle we call the fourth of 2008, it was trading around $10 per share.  While doing research, the stock was trading around $5.35.  I saw a$5 call for October for over 80 cents.

My position was closed over the weekend.  I will show my results after I run the numbers.
