I realize that a good commenting system is a must for any credible blog. When I first started this blog I punted on this and allowed comments from anyone. However, I did moderate the comments. I was mostly just checking for spam. I know I could have used Aksimet Spam Detection, but it didn’t seem like a great fit for me initially. I was just blogging what I felt was important, and did think paying a monthly fee for spam detection was worth it.
Recently the spam was too much. I changed my settings to make everyone register to post a comment. This caused my users a ton of issues. After a couple of friends and colleagues stated this was a problem, I felt I had to fix it. I wanted a very tight integration with Twitter. There were tons of alternative options for this. I researched using Facebook Connect, a WordPress.com login, and OpenID.
After all my research I found Simple Twitter Connect. It took a couple of minutes to setup. Hopefully you like the new Twitter button to tweet posts and the ability to leave a comment with your Twitter account. If you’re looking to add Twitter as an option for comments to your WordPress blog, you may want to check out Simple Twitter Connect.
